With Valentine Day fast approaching I thought of something I would like to do, and I would encourage you to do the same. Find a quiet place and write A Love Letter to the Lord. We spend most of our life ignoring His Blessings by passing His Presence and running from His reaching Arms. In these trying times we need to sit down by the side of the road and talk to the Lord. Just spill our hearts out before Him, getting to the core of our being, to let Him know just how precious His Love is to us.
A Love Letter To My Lord
Lord the day has been busy
And I'm pressed from every side.
I come before You in thanksgiving
Desperately needing a place to hide.
To rest in the cool of the morning
Before the cares of the day lay me low,
To simply say; Lord, I love you,
Please, never let me go.
For You have been my Savior
When my sins brought me down to shame,
You have been the light of my life
When I heard You call my name.
The older I get the more battles beset me
And often I try to fight them alone,
Forgetting that, my Lord, you are able
To lift each stumbling stone.
Come now my blessed Savior.
Touch the strings of this broken heart.
Remind me that you have the answers,
That I am chosen and set apart.
I need a hug, Lord Jesus.
I need to feel the touch of your hand.
I need to know the way to go,
For I know you hold the plan.
Habakkuk 2:1-2; "I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what He will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved. And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the Vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it."
There are things in our soulA song written by Gloria Gaither comes to mind, I remember so well singing this song many times in the choir at First Baptist Atlanta. The words of this song are truly, A Love Letter to My Lord.
that can only be shared with God.
There are furrow in the stone cold ground,
and only God can break up that sod.
There are hearts that must be broken,
if they are ever to be set free.
Break my heart, if you must Lord,
for that freedom to begin in me.Broken And Spilled OutHow often do we search for ways to tell Jesus how very much we love Him? But how often does it take our brokenness to get us to that place of pouring out our love before Him? This is what our love letter is all about. Finally, telling Jesus how much he means to us. Everything that we are, every breath that we take, every gift he has given us, we freely spill lavishly upon Him. Because He is our Lord! He is our Savior! He is the One who cared enough to lay down His life to save our soul.
Broken and spilled out,
Just for love of you, Jesus
My own precious treasure
Lavished on thee.
Matthew 6:19-21; "Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."
Broken and spilled outI Corinthians 11:23-24; "For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which He was betrayed took bread: And when He had given thanks, He brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is My Body, which is broken for you: this do I in remembrance of Me."
And poured at your feet
In sweet abandon, let me be spilled out
And used up for thee
Something I had never seen before in these verses, "the same night in which He was betrayed took bread:" Surely each one of us can relate to this at some point, perhaps at many points in our life, when we have been betrayed. Jesus was hurting, deep down hurting, He had been betrayed, but still He took the bread and broke it, in Remembrance of his body that had to be broken for us. "For Us!" People! Do we truly see the grace in His actions? Do we feel His pain, and at the same time His deep love for those who had betrayed Him? Every time we are betrayed we must remember this. We all must be broken and spilled out to truly Know Him. And with the Knowing comes the Blessing.
One day a plain village woman,Isaiah 42:6-7; "I the Lord have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles; To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house."
Driven by love for her lord,
Recklessly poured out a valuable essence,
Disregarding the scorn. And once it was broken and spilled out,
A fragrance filled all the room,
Like a prisoner released from his shackles,
Like a spirit set free from the tomb.
How many of us sit in darkness tonight. With pen in hand, still afraid to write what is on our heart to the Lord. We have within us a precious treasure, but it must be broken and spilled out to release it from the prison of our fears. We must be set free, to become free indeed. But, God gives us the freewill to make that choice. Just as God tells us in scripture to "Choose Life." We must choose to be broken as Jesus chose to be broken for us. Then and only then can we be set free to become the instruments of His Grace.
Whatever it takes to be yours, lordMatthew 8:1-3; "When He was come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed Him. And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped Him, saying, Lord, IF THOU WILT, THOU CANST MAKE ME CLEAN. And Jesus put forth His Hand, and touched him, saying, I WILL; BE THOU CLEAN. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed."
Whatever it takes to be clean.
I just can't live without your sweet approval,
No matter what it may mean!
How many of us need that cleansing touch this day? How many have lost all hope thinking that God is not able to do such a miracle? I must admit that I stand in the need of that cleansing today. I have made many mistakes in my life, but I come to Jesus as the leper came worshipping Him, KNOWING THAT HE CAN MAKE ME CLEAN.The key to experiencing the Love of God, as together we write Him this Love letter, is to BELIEVE. For we must Believe, before we can receive. We must be broken, before our life can be spilled out before Him, releasing all of the sin and fear that binds us. Jesus reaches out today, to us, His broken empty children saying; "Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." His arms are open, today, but we must be willing to come.
I throw myself at your feet, lord,Psalm 37:3-5; "Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. Delight thyself also in the Lord; and He shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in Him; and He shall bring it to pass."
Broken by your love for me;
May the fragrance of total commitment
Be the only defense that I need.
What does commitment mean to you? To me it means a laying down of EVERYTHING THAT KEEPS ME FROM CHRIST. When we humble ourselves before Christ, recognizing His authority in our lives, trusting in His grace to set us free, we will experience that total commitment.
Lord, you were god's precious treasureWhat does love mean to you? To me it means and unconditional caring. A personal understanding of who I am. A patience to restore me even when I run from that precious love. And finally a complete love, a love that will never let me go. A love that waits to welcome me home into that place of everlasting love.
His loved and his own perfect son,
Sent here to show me the love of the father
Yes, just for love it was done!
And though you were perfect and holyAt the end of the road, there stands my Savior, with tears of joy in His eye. For he see the periodical child drawing near to simply ask Him why? Why did You come to save me, when I deserved an eternal hell? Why did You care, enough to wait for me, then He said; Peace Be still. And He open His arms to embrace me, with a Love that only He could know. And in His embrace I felt at home, what greater love could I ever know.
You gave up yourself willingly,
And you spared no expense for my pardon
You were spilled out and wasted for me!
Without a word of condemnationLove in Christ,
His love covered all of my pain
Suddenly a band of angels
Were singing praise to his holy name
(Your name)
