Badge of Authority

A young FBI Agent went out to visit a remote Texas ranch on reports that illegal drugs were being grown in the area. Upon arriving, he informed the old rancher whose place it was that he needed to inspect the ranch to determine whether any drugs were being grown there.

The old rancher said, "Okay. But, don't go in that field over there."

The FBI Agent verbally exploded, saying, "Mister, I am an Agent of the Federal Government." He then reached into his pocket, retrieved his badge, and added, "Do you see this badge? This badge means that I am allowed to go wherever I wish...on any land. No questions asked. No explanation needed. Have I made myself clear? Do you understand?"

The old rancher nodded politely and went about his chores.

Suspicious of wrongdoing, the FBI Agent immediately set about inspecting the "restricted" field.

A few minutes later, the old rancher heard a loud scream and saw the FBI Agent running wildly across the field. Close behind was the rancher's bull. With every few feet the bull gained ground on the Agent who was clearly terrified.

The old rancher immediately threw down his tools, ran to the fence, and yelled at the top of his lungs.

"Your badge! Show him your badge!"

By the way, the agent failed to see the sign on the fence that said:

I don’t charge you
to cross my field -
but the bull does.
